                             Helping at Home
At Colden Early Years Nursery we make it one of our priorities to create strong nursery and home links. In order to further secure these links here are some ideas of how you can support the learning that takes place in the nursery this half term. Parents are more than welcome to add to their child’s learning journeys and nursery books that are sent home at the end of the session. We really appreciate your contribution and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact a member of staff.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

In order to help us secure relationships with peers and staff, you could take time to ask your child who they played with that day and what they did together. Allowing children the opportunity to tell you about their friends allows them to reflect and maintain relationships.

Communication and Language

Speaking and listening skills are crucial to development. You can encourage this at home by asking your child questions and modelling, using full sentences when they are engaged in conversation with you.

Expressive Arts and Design

Your child’s pictures will be displayed around the nursery and sent home. Encourage your child to talk about what they have done at nursery.

Literacy
You can support your child by reinforcing good manners and sharing at home. You can talk about different feelings and encourage your child to talk about how they are feeling and why.

Mathematics

There are numerous ways in which you can support your child’s early maths skills at home. Counting activities can be as simple as asking your child how many plates are on the table, encouraging them to touch each plate as they count. Look at patterns around the home and let them help match and pair the socks when doing the laundry.

Physical Development

You can support your child’s physical development at home by encouraging them to handle tools, for example using jugs to pour drinks and using mark making tools, helping to set the table at meal times.

Understanding the World

Exploring the outdoors is a fantastic way to help children about the world in which they live in. Looking at different trees, plants, bugs and animals teaches children about all the different things in their environment. Being outdoors also teaches children about road safety and a fantastic game to play is guessing what the different road signs mean.
